My last post was my latest work, whereas this, about 14 years ago, was one of my first. Somehow I thought that using pastel chalks would be easy. Anyway I laboured on in considerable detail with blunt ended chalk sticks and produced this rendering of Warkworth, Northumberland. My Gran’s house was the one just above the red sign, which was a Postoffice. Hardly used pastels since!
A watercolour showing Warkworth Castle, above the river Coquet in Northumberland. The castle was the medieval stronghold of the Percy’s whose land, riches and position were derived from their unfailing loyalty to the monarchy. The Percy Family hold the Dukedom of Northumberland now based at Alnwick Castle.
