A watercolour showing Warkworth Castle, above the river Coquet in Northumberland. The castle was the medieval stronghold of the Percy’s whose land, riches and position were derived from their unfailing loyalty to the monarchy. The Percy Family hold the Dukedom of Northumberland now based at Alnwick Castle.
A watercolour of the Old Bridge and fortified Gateway into Warkworth. The Castle is in the background. My Grandmother lived about 30 yards from the bridge. As a lad, this was the way into Warkworth from the North, over the river Coquet. Modern traffic conditions led to a new bridge being built adjacent to the old one.
