A Rainy Evening in Grey Street

I spent all my working life in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Grey Street is one of the classical Georgian streets of the city built in the 1830’s. At the head of the street is a monument to Charles, Earl Grey, an early campaigner for civil rights, built in 1838.
This watercolour depicts Grey Street, one rainy evening; shoppers heading for home and the ‘Evening Chronicle’ newspaper seller, taking shelter in a shop doorway, to the left of the picture.
