Fountains Abbey, Cloisters

20140104-105130.jpg
A photograph of the magnificent west range of cloisters built in the 13th Century at the Cistercian Fountains Abbey, now managed by The National Trust, near Ripon, North Yorkshire. Set in a beautiful secluded valley and well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. Until the dissolution of the monasteries, during the reign of Henry Vlll, Fountains Abbey had become one of the most wealthy monastic houses in England.
